Remember those early teenage years? Your voice cracking at inopportune moments, acne, braces, the usual host of things that makes being a teenager difficult. Well, at 16 years old, Aztek is going through some of those same changes (metaphorically speaking). We're maturing, but not without a few awkward moments.
What are you even talking about?
Cheesy teenage puberty metaphors aside, we are transitioning our approach to projects. We're abandoning "waterfall" style development (where you move from one very rigid and defined project phase to the next) for what is known as "agile" development (where phases are little more organic and the project is broken into smaller, iterative chunks). And for some of our clients, that means we're changing how we do some things right in the middle of your project.
Because agile development techniques have proven themselves to provide a better outcome for your project, timeframes, and budget. Projects developed under the agile method are typically delivered with more features and higher quality inside of the same budget. And we want to see our clients be the beneficiaries of those types of results. But in the meantime, there will be some growing pains.
Our team has been training hard and working diligently over the past months to incorporate the new project development framework into our normal routine, but we've got a little ways to go still. If you were one of the lucky ones to catch us in the middle of this transition, you may not be used to some of the new structures.
Here's a little of what you can expect:
- Seeing more completed project functionality sooner in the project
- Getting more features inside of your scope
- Meeting more regularly with your project team to see progress and give us feedback so we can make adjustments
- Less wondering about how much is left to complete on your project
- Fewer bugs and unnecessary changes later in the process
And that's really just the tip of the iceberg. Agile development is one of the biggest changes for Aztek this year, but it's hardly the only one...And once our voice stops cracking, we're really going to sing.
If you have any questions about the changes to our process, give us a call.
